The "Gourd Group" of the South Bay area originally formed
in April of 1993. For four and a half years a group of about eighteen
met quarterly in the homes of different members. The group formed
a tight-knit camaraderie and enjoyed a wide variety of projects and
presentations. In November of 1997 the group voted to join the CALIFORNIA
GOURD SOCIETY and become the official "Gourd Patch" of
the region. We now count over 100 members in our area.
We meet every
two months and usually have over 30 members at any gathering.
A
wide range of programs provides opportunities to share what other
gourders are doing, experiment with new techniques and enjoy the
sociability of fellow "gourdies." In addition, the club gives members:
Bi-monthly local newsletter Opportunities to participate as a group
in local art and crafts shows Continuing series of craft classes
Weekly work groups Access to a library of resources
Because our group
is interested in so many facets of gourd growing and crafting we
have organized ourselves according to various needs that we have
identified. With that in mind, we have formed a Calabash Council
composed of coordinators who assume responsibility for each specific
area of activity. As new areas of interest arise we will add additional
coordinators. We feel fortunate that each of our coordinators is
especially skilled in the area for which they have volunteered.
Following is a listing of names, responsibilities and phone numbers.
They would be happy to talk to other gourd members at any time.
