Mission Statement of the California Gourd Society

To promote the horticulture, crafting, and appreciation of hard shelled gourds (Lagenaria) by providing charitable and educational activities to members of the society, growers, artists, crafters, business people and the public through community support and education.

About the California Gourd Society

There are currently 1,000 members of CGS including world-famous artists, musicians,
teachers and authors. California farmers grow and ship gourds throughout the world.
CGS has over 20 "Gourd Patches" located throughout California. These are local groups
that meet at least quarterly to serve the interests of members within their
geographic regions.

The local coordinators of these groups schedule classes, seminars, art shows and other activities. To obtain the telephone number of a local "patch," please call

A quarterly newsletter, "The Golden Gourd," is published as part of the membership
benefits for CGS members. Articles about gourd art, horticulture, a quarterly calendar of classes and events keep members informed about gourd events in California and throughout the United States.
