Call to Artists!
A Northern CA CGS Gourd Art Competition will take
place at Leiser Farms 8th Annual Gourd Festival in Knights Landing,
California May 15th and 16th. It is open to all CGS members throughout
the state and be-yond.
There are two divisions:
Please note: A childrens
competition will be handled by the local elementary school.
1. The Novice division is for members who have
not previously won a ribbon (Honor system} in a CGS competi-tion.
2. The Open division is for anyone who has won a ribbon in the novice division or who
do not consider them-selves a beginner.
How to enter:
- There is an entry fee
of $6.00, payable at the time art is delivered. Make checks payable
to CGS.
- All work
must be original and done by the exhibiting artist and not
previously entered in any CGS competi-tion. Gourds must predominate
and artistry, originality and integrity of design are all important.
- Only one piece per category
is permitted.
- Entries may be
submitted on Thursday, May 13, from 12 noon - 5 p.m. or Friday,
May 14, 8 a.m. - 9 a.m. NO mailed entries will be accepted.
- Judging will take place
on Friday, May 14th and the display will be open for viewing
on Saturday and Sun-day.
- Release
and pick up of entries will be from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, May
16th. All art work not picked up will become the property of
CGS.
- While every effort is
made to provide security of items, Leiser Farms and the California
Gourd Society are not responsible for damage or lost items.
- It is the responsibility
of the artists to place their piece in the correct category.
Please read category descriptions carefully.

CATEGORIES:
Category 1: Totem. Three or more
gourds combined vertically to depict a totem pole.
Category 2: California Poppy. Any representation of this California symbol.
Painting, carving, pyrography, etc. acceptable.
Category 3: Pyrography.
whole or cut gourd. Color may be added but wood burning must predominate.
Category 4: Signage. Whole or cut gourd but work must include
words or message, Any technique acceptable.
Category 5: Rainstick.
Use one or more gourds to create a rainstick. Must be playable
and the “rain sound” will
be judged.
Category 6: Shadow Box - Must be able to be hung. Create
a message or scene using gourds and other materi-als.
Category
7: Landscape. Whole or cut gourd, may be inside or outside the
gourd. Two or three dimension de-piction permitted.
Category 8: Collaborative work of gourd art. Work with one or more other person
to produce a unified work. Team work must be evident in a note
describing how each team member participated.
Category 9: Gourd
basket. Must have a handle. May incorporate weaving or coiling
of natural or man-made materials.
Category 10: People. Create a
piece with 2 or more figures on a gourd or standing but unified
in some way.
Category 11: Inspired
by Larry McClelland - Create a single piece of one or more gourds
which reflects the whimsy, color and creativity that are characterize
Larry's work. |
